Emor "Say!"
TORAH: Leviticus 21:1-24:23 | PROPHETS: Ezekiel 44:15-31 | GOSPEL: Matthew 26:59-66
Has Jesus already fulfilled all the Law and Prophets?
Are the Feasts of the Lord still relevant today?
Let’s explore the Torah Portion Emor, which means “Say,” found in Leviticus 21–24.
Much of this portion focuses on God establishing a distinction between Israel and the nations. He declares His holiness and calls His people to live set apart—not like the surrounding sinful nations, but according to His holy standard. In fact, the concept of “holy” is mentioned nearly 90 times in the book of Leviticus.
In Leviticus 23, God introduces His feasts and calls them
Holy Gatherings.
From the Sabbath to the Feast of Tabernacles, He lays out these appointed times and tells Israel they are to be observed forever.
This raises an important question for us as Christians:
Do these appointed times still matter today? Are we meant to keep them as well?
Let's look at the Sabbath - the Sabbath is not only one of the Ten Commandments—it was established at creation:
Genesis 2:3 “God blessed the seventh day and made it holy.”
If the Sabbath was important to God at creation, why wouldn’t it still matter now?
As we honor the Sabbath, we do so with a deeper purpose: entering into the fullness of God’s rest, as described in Hebrews 4. It becomes more than a day—it becomes an invitation into His presence and peace.
What about the other Feasts of the Lord? If Christ is the fulfillment, do they still have value?
To understand this, it helps to see the pattern:
There are 4 Spring Feasts -> Followed by a summer season -> And then 3 Fall Feasts
I believe Jesus fulfilled the spring feasts in powerful and precise ways:
Passover – He became the Passover Lamb
Unleavened Bread – He was sinless, the spotless sacrifice
Firstfruits – His resurrection
Pentecost – The outpouring of the Holy Spirit
Each one was fulfilled on the very day of its appointed time.
What About the Fall Feasts?
The fall feasts appear to point forward—to events still to come:
Trumpets – The return of Christ
Day of Atonement – The judgment
Tabernacles – God dwelling with man
Revelation 21:3 “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.”
Again I ask, do They Still Matter for Us as Christians? Paul gives us an important perspective:
Colossians 2:17 “These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.”
So the question becomes:
Do you believe Christ is—and will be—the fulfillment of these appointed times? Do you desire to grow deeper in your relationship with Him and prepare for His return?
If so, I would strongly encourage you to explore, understand, and maybe even celebrate these appointed times.
It’s worth remembering—they are NOT called “Jewish feasts,” but
The Appointed Times of The Lord.
Observing them does not bring salvation—Scripture is clear on that. However, understanding and engaging with them can deepen our awareness of God’s heart, His redemptive plan for Israel and the nations, and our role within it.
They are not about obligation—but about invitation.
